I'll keep updating this journal as I get ready for my big trip.

Snow in New Mexico
We left Grand Rapids on Feb. 13 It was a beautiful sunny day with lots of snow blowing around. So, very good for driving. We found a Wal-Mart just south of St. Louis where we parked our travel trailer for the night. At about 1.00 am we learned through the LPG alarm that our battery was dead and we had no heat. The “gas leakage detector” kept beeping cause it had no power to work properly and we couldn’t turn it off. So we decided we may as well get back on the road till the battery stores opened… I must say that was a rough start of the trip. But after fixing that problem the next day we had a very good trip down and some nice Wal-Mart camp-over’s (my kind of camping, nice and close to the grocery store). We did run into some snow in New Mexico and wondered how far south we had to go before it would warm up.

Pecan orchard near our campsite
Now we are staying at the “Goldminer’s campground” in Cochise Arizona. Where an old friend from Texas Tom Marlatt welcomed us (Tom is a full time RVer and will drive me to San Diego in 2 weeks). Dave is going to stay here for a month to learn to train horses at a ranch close by. I will have a chance to ride my bike here for the next two weeks. This evening we are driving to Tucson to pick up Petra (our daughter) who is on winter break and is going to ride with me for the next week.

My first ride in Arizona
So today, I went out for a short 20 miles to warm up ride (had not biked for a week) and it was just wonderful to ride outside again. The wind was about 60 miles an hour (just kidding) but it was very windy. However, since I rode in one big square I had as much tailwind as headwind. On the tailwind part, I was going 30 miles an hour without any effort (that is how windy it was).
