DAY 9 60 MILES TOTAL MILES 611
Today we rode out of rural America, to the busy Florida Coast. Melissa decided not to ride today, after her fall yesterday she got pretty bruised up. Andy also decided to keep Dave and Melissa company in the truck. So it was the three of us that started out. We traveled on all kinds of roads, some with nice big shoulders, and some with little or no shoulder. Sometimes you could almost feel the truck on your elbows as they passed by. The landscape changed from pine forests to lots of water, dunes, and back to the palm trees. Check out the “back to the future” gas price sign we came by.

The view from the bridge going onto Amelia Island was beautiful (see picture of Mary and I at the top of the bridge) Amelia Island was wonderful to ride, and the weather was again just fantastic to ride a bicycle.

We had lunch in a restaurant by the St. John’s River. After lunch we went across the St. John’s river on a ferry (see top picture). From there on the traffic got busier and busier, Dave tried to lead us of the busy roads onto different roads, from there the picture I took while riding of the back of the trailer we just had to follow. Mary also had another flat earlier in the afternoon and I’m still impressed how fast she can change a tire……. I have a lot to learn yet‼ Tomorrow we will be riding through St. Augustine but won’t have time to see much so we decided to go there for dinner tonight after we got cleaned up at the hotel. The old town was totally decorated for Christmas the lights where just beautiful. So it was really fun walking around there and we had a great dinner at a Cuban/Spanish restaurant.
Tomorrow we are still riding all day and after that we will drive for 7 hours to Melissa’s cousin in North Carolina, where we will stay the night and drive from their home the next day. So I will write Day 10 when we get home since I will not have the opportunity to do it tomorrow.
