DAY 8 62 MILES TOTAL MILES 551
The weather forecast for today was very nice except for a cold start. We bundled up with long pants and gloves, and got going on today’s ride. Today was our swamp day so we were hoping to see an alligator, which we didn’t but there is always tomorrow‼! Our serenade today was “Georgia on my mind” very fitting for our last day in Georgia. After a few days of having lunch in a restaurant, I realize that most restaurants in rural Georgia serve buffets. Normally I stay away from them because it is too easy to eat too much, but right now that doesn’t matter (when I burn more calories than I eat) so we ate lots at the “Okefenokee Restaurant”.
At one point as we were riding along in the afternoon Melissa touched her front wheel to Andy’s back wheel and went down hard. I was right behind her but was able to go around her. She cracked her helmet at 2 places, and will have some nice bruises and scrapes, but when I hear of some other crashes she was very lucky it wasn’t worse. She went back on her bike and rode another 10 miles before she got into the truck with Dave.

The picture on the bridge was one of our Kodak moments where we where smelling the roses…. The one with Andy and me by the “national wildlife refuge” sign I told him to look excited, so when I looked at my pictures later I saw that he did what I told him to do….. The picture by the side of the road was our end of the day picture for today.
By the time we entered Florida I was very disappointed not to see a Florida welcome sign, so we can’t prove that we are in Florida right now, you will just have to take my word for it!
