I'll keep updating this journal as I get ready for my big trip next year.
Day 2 - 66 miles - total miles 135
We had another beautiful day in South Carolina. Our breakfast at the plantation was a very good start for the day. We had a long day ahead otherwise it would have been nice to walk around the plantation. So driving out of the driveway with the beautiful old live oaks on either side will have to do for now. Leaving from the plantation we rode to Jamestown and then on to Charleston. To get there we rode for about 40 miles on one long straight flat road with forest on either side, a warm sun in our faces… it couldn’t get much better. By about 12.30 pm we saw the Sag trailer from a distance which is always a welcome sight. Our Van Meister was waiting for us with sandwiches, fruit and snacks so we had a picnic on the grass in front of a little church.

We only had 20 miles left to go, but at about mile 55 Mary got the first flat and her tire was torn beyond repair. So Dave came back and took her to a bike shop. The rest of us went on and about 5 miles down the road we came to the biggest bridge I’ve ever ridden across on a bike. Very cool and a great view. The trickiest part was dodging the glass on the shoulder. We got to the hotel about the same time as Dave. After a nice shower, a great dinner, a drive through Charleston, and last but not least ice cream, it is now that time to rest up for a 71 mile day tomorrow.
